Those who are heartless were the ones who cared the most.

A tear dripping down your face, you sank to your knees. How many times has it been since he first cheated on you? You couldn't even keep track. But, you reasoned, this was the last time you would ever cry over him. Alfred's cheating had less effect on you each time it happened. You were almost tear-free this time.

'Oh, yeah,' You thought morbidly; he never called it cheating. He called it a mere game, made to keep the ladies entertained.

"Yeah, dude! The ladies love me! I am the hero~!" Well, he wasn't going to get his cake and eat it too, you chuckled.

He didn't know it, but you had known of his infidelity ever since you saw his shirt stained with lipstick, and when he had moaned a girl's name while he was asleep. Well then. You didn't care.

Your demeanor had changed drastically; and everyone, except for the dense country named America that was your ex- and didn't even realise you had broken up-  noticed with frenzy. They were filled with concern for you, especially England, who had warned you that America was childish and didn't notice many things. You gave a smile that didn't reach up to your eyes, while Feliciano gave you worried looks.

After a meeting, you noticed that they purposely told Canada- they actually remembered him- to take America out. America had gave you a kiss on the cheeks, before rushing out yelling "Hamburgers!!!" and raising his fist in the air in the sign of victory.

A gentle Japan and China came up to you and asked what was wrong. You replied with a false smile and fake words. They watched you with worry.

Needless to say, it was England that got everything out of you. You soon found yourself pouring out your feelings to him, your cheeks dry; they had already been stained enough with tears.

The two of you sat quietly in his home, sipping tea while thinking about matters. Soon, England found himself asking a tentative question.

The heartless were the ones who gave their heart away. For who can kill a heart but emotions themselves?

"Is something the matter?"

To which, you replied with a shake of the head, your face now stoic.

And that was the way it remained. You chuckled. Not for much longer.

"Imagine a snowball."

The country in front of you lifted his abnormally large eyebrows in response to your request. You rolled your eyes, a hint of a smile on your lips, but other than that, your facial features didn't change.

"...Okay?"

Arthur called on his fae; which you believed in, but you couldn't see them yourself, to bring a snowball to him. To your surprise, they actually brought him one; albeit it was a floating snowball in the air.

"...Melt it."

Large eyes grew even larger at the curious request.

Pretty soon, the snowball was melted into water. You continued your speech.

"...They say that the human heart is like a snowball," You gestured to the ball in front of you. "In that once it melts, it can never be the same, no matter how hard you try to make it so."

You nodded towards the puddle on the wood floor, gesturing for the fae to freeze it again. They complied, but the puddle never regained its former shape. Instead, it stayed as an ice crystal.

Arthur nodded tentatively, not sure as to where you were going.

"Each time it melts, there is less and less of it, even if it is slowly. One can never regain it." You motioned for the faeries to freeze and melt it again.

"Each time it freezes, it melts again. It'll never be the same after it melts." Arthur watched as the puddle changed each time it melted, still not sure as to where you are going.

"The first time Alfred did that, my heart, which was pure like a snowball, melted under the intense flames of envy and betrayal."

Puddle.

"The second time, my heart was clear; there was no air to cushion the fall, no air to soften the impact. There was no more snowball. There was only feeling. No oblivion; no innocence. My heart became an ice crystal."

Ice.

"After each time, the ice melts, and in doing that, leaves areas in which the frigidness can't get to."

Arthur watched the crystal each time, making sure he wouldn't miss a single detail. The crystal got smaller and smaller each time.

"Soon, due to the loss of water," You gestured to the tiny drop of water that was left. "It is impossible to create another heart."

Arthur swallowed, getting the meaning of your words.

You stared at him for a moment, before looking away.

"B-but why?" Arthur croaked, staring at you as the full implement of your words hit him.

You turned away from him as you walked out the door, looking at him one last time. Not doing much more, you sighed. He stood near you, reaching out towards you, but you chuckled, pushing him away. And so, you pushed him away, letting the madness overcome you.

"...Sometimes the ones who lose all feelings, are the ones who gave it all away." Your eyes dimmed in color, as you started screaming and ran out the door. You laughed some more in hysteria, before covering your face in tears, the water on your face seeming to become a filter, changing your view of the world. How distorted the world was; how far was it from pure? You laughed sardonically, and then ran to a river.

And you took some of your final steps.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A lone girl stands in front of a river, the wind blowing hair out of her face; but not even the rain could leave marks on her skin.

She stares into the water, leaving whatever she had left of a heart, inside the river. Air bubbles, not an ice crystal or a snowball, float up to the river's surface.

Somewhere, in a land that is rumored to be dreary and wet all day long, a man with abnormal eyebrows stands there, looking at a drop of water that just disappeared. His snowball melts and won't freeze again.
Okay, yes, England does love you, it's just that he wanted you to be happy, so he left you with America.

And you killed yourself. :iconwhymeplz:

I wish to put this in a contest as my second entry for :iconfunkylime123:

Explanation.

1. Alfred cheated on you. That much is clear. Arthur loves you, but that's not important. What is important, is that each time it happened, and Arthur comforted you, you lost sight of what was true happiness. You lost sight of what was good in the world.

2. "For what other can kill a heart, but emotions?" (not the exact wording, because I forgot how it was phrased.)

Emotions bring a heart to life, yet it can also kill it and dreams. Emotions are like a double-edged sword.

3. Snowball thing.

I would hope I explained that enough in the story, or else I really suck at this. ( =-= )

4. "Your tears were like a filter....how distorted the world was."

Your tears blocked all signs of reality from you; the meaning here is that since your tears have always been coming out, it provided a shield of some sort from the feelings you had about Alfred. But since you stopped crying, there is no shield to protect you, and you grew insane with how cruel and harsh the world is. Why the world was distorted, was because you were always used to seeing the world from a shield.

5. "His snowball melts."

Arthur is inconsolable, and his hearts dies (not literally). :icontearplz: (...Why does the tear plz account look so happy?)

And I really need to make shorter explanations. XD
